I often have the urge to fully polish absolutely everything and it’s a bad habit! Currently trying to be fine with keeping things loose and quick for images that don’t necessarily need the effort, just getting the rough idea across can be good enough.
First piece of 2023! – – – I wrote a little about how I’ve been taking inspiration from 70s SFF illustration and the specific work I’ve drawn from over on patreon, plus a timelapse.
My publisher released the cover, so I suppose I can post it here too! The full graphic novel collection of Mage is releasing this summer and can be pre-ordered at major booksellers. I can’t wait to hold it in my hands.
Sketched these out in 2021 with intent to finish them up later, but never did! So might as well post them. I still like them enough that I might end up finishing them after all, who knows.
Thank you to everyone who got a copy of To Hell! I was blown away by the response to this comic, I can’t express my gratitude enough. It’s currently available to download on patreon in the early access tier (link in links page) and I’m looking into storefronts like itchio to make it available again in the future (and maybe physical copies? maybe!).
To Hell is the kind of work I would like to continue to make and to see that there is an audience for it is very encouraging.
MAGE and the Endless Unknown is now complete and you can read it from start to finish on the main site. It’s the longest comic I’ve made! The graphic novel (coming out next year, possibly! official release date pending) will have updated and revised art that is exclusive to the printed edition.
It’s important to me that people can read the original version and see how loose and rough the art got towards the end on some of these chapters, considering they were drawn in a month lol. I can still feel my sore hand when I look at the final page of part two.
The biggest challenge for the final two chapters was trying to make the format changes of the preview three feel purposeful, like it made sense when read together as a whole. I don’t know if I would have approached it this way if Iron Circus hadn’t reached out to publish it, but I think the comic is better for it.
I’m on cohost! I try to keep an eye on any upstart social media and this one is the most promising I’ve tried in terms of features, stated goals, and community. It’s actually fun to be on, incredible. Remains to be seen if it’ll last, but I certainly hope it does.
